We are really pleased for Key Stage 3 Teacher, Tim Walker, who has been nominated for a School Trip Champion Award.
The School Travel Awards 2017-2018 is organised by School Travel Organiser.com and the School Trip Champion award recognises the people who organise amazing school trips and champion learning outside the classroom. After months of nominations, Tim was announced as one of the four finalists for this year’s award. The winner receives a rather nice trophy and framed certificate for their mantelpiece and their school receives £1,000 to spend on a future school trip!
As part of the Springfield team, Tim works to create trips and residential opportunities for our pupils that allow them to develop the skills they learn in school and access education in a stimulating and relevant way. Such achievements help pupils develop their life skills, grow in confidence and improve their self-belief. Tim has also been instrumental in successfully setting up the Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme for Springfield pupils (one of only a handful of DofE schemes nationwide for participants with learning difficulties). Launched for Key Stage 4 pupils in 2016 the DofE Awards Scheme offers a huge amount of value to a young person. The personal and non-competitive nature of a DofE programme means that participants from different and diverse starting points can be equally proud of achieving a certificate based on their personal challenge and journey. Every section of a DofE programme gives young people an opportunity to be independent, self-sufficient and to be challenged as an individual. A special ceremony at Blenheim Palace in July saw the inaugural participants awarded with their Bronze Award – a brilliant achievement!
The winner is decided by a public vote so please spare a few moments to vote for Tim by following the link below. The deadline for votes is Monday 2nd October and the winner will be announced at the five-star School Travel Awards luncheon and ceremony at the Royal Garden Hotel in Kensington, London on Thursday 9th November. Good luck Tim!
